The \u20181970 1/2\u2019 was a nickname for the 1970 Camaro which due to some production glitch or other reason wasn\u2019t begun to be produced until much later in \u201869 or possibly early \u201870. The \u201869 Camaros were produced much longer than the usual run, hence there were some 18,000 \u201869 Z28\u2019s produced. I think 8000? 1970 Z28\u2019s made it to the showroom but maybe that was 1971, i haven\u2019t seen the number for quite a while. Very similar cars ( 70 & 71 ) but there are some differences, some large, some small. Both had the 350 Lt1 only, but the \u201871 had flat top pistons for 9:1 compression ratio instead of the \u201870\u2019s 11:1 C/R . \u201870 rating was 360hp ( because the Corvette had to have more at 370hp ). The \u201871 rated at 330 as displayed here on the breather lid. The \u201871 went to the \u2018Vega style\u2019 hi back buckets from the low 1970 style. Both had m21 or m22 Muncie\u2019s available. The \u201871 differential was a \u2018corporate 10 bolt\u2019, ie other non chev\u2019s used the same diffs, eg Firebirds. This listed car appears to have the original Lt1 block but it\u2019s been rebuilt to \u2018different than stock spec\u2019. The heads look non original to me, as i see no double bump, but i just glanced quickly. The car\u2019s stance is horrid, pulling the coil over shocks may help as perhaps the rear leafs haven\u2019t been changed. The fronts probably are the incorrect coil springs. Niggling year to year details aside the LT1 was a much better powerplant than the 350 offered in the SS, which was a dress-up option really but with F41 suspension could be made to handle reasonably well.\r\nThe SS top small block was the 350 4 bbl. In 70 it would have had the 4 bolt main block and there the similarities ended. The LT1 had the forged crankshaft, rods and pistons, giving it significant strength advantages over the 350 4bbl Ss engine. A better oil pump and windage tray, to lessen the likelihood of oil starvation in a quick corner. The 1970 350 4bbl would have 10.25:1 compression, the LT1 11 to 1.. The LT1 had better heads with 2:02 intake valves vs 1:94 for the SS engine. Aluminum factory \u2018Winters\u2019 intake manifold and 780 Holley carb vs the cast intake and Rochester Quadrajet carb on the SS 350 4bbl. The Z28 was the shit back in the day. This listed machine isn\u2019t anywhere close to stock spec, but it appears to have rolled off the Nkrwood line as a Z28, so it\u2019ll command more\r\ndollars than a same condition and level of originality SS.. Who knows what its body condition is under that green paint? Looks quite nice. I am not a real fan of that particular shade but it does match that oft seen magazine ad we see posted on-line etc.. I\u2019d rock it. \r\nIn the shoulda woulda, i hate the idea of cutting up an original.. but the stock spec suspension is generally so outdated.. no stiffness, lots of twist, so i always think frame connectors etc.. \r\nThere was a pooey bland forest green 73 with auto on Flee Bay about 10 years ago.. i stalked that thing, was in good enough shape, far better than this.. iirc it went for 7 or 8 thousand.. blecch oatmeal & green interior iirc..
