I took that title to my local tag office and explained that the truck was a 1992, so they wrote a letter to the state when the Oklahoma title was submitted. \n\nWhen I received the title from Georgia it said 2001 again. We wrote the state and they said that their system said this vehicle was a 2001 by VIN. I was then told that Wallace Laboratories likely imported the G in 2001, hence the decal in the door jamb stating that the VIN was located under the hood on this vehicle, as part of federalization.\n\nIt's given me zero issues with titling, registration, or insurance. These are controlled electronically, just like the G500 and can be shifted on the fly. You can see the pics of the switches in the gallery.\n\nOne big benefit to this G over the 500 and newer models is the manual engagement of the high/ low ranges in the transfer case. The newer vehicles have a servo motor that does this for the driver, but that motor has plastic gears inside it that fail and can leave you on the side of the road. This is a common ailment with the G500, and is of no concern with this G.\n\nI have used this G off-road, but have always done so maturely. Got a little busy, and had several emails from BAT users that needed to be answered, as well as a couple of calls.\n\nHere's some answers to your questions:\n@SDKeith- The servo motor issue with the later vehicles just happened to my Wife's G500 on Saturday, so its a hot topic for me right now, since I get the honors of repairing hers this weekend. In my research diagnosing this fault it had a common enough occurrence to be referred to as \"the dreaded transfer case in neutral\" syndrome on many boards. Her G500 has 60,000 miles, and has already had the servo motor replaced once as referenced in the service records for the vehicle, before we bought it. Hers has acted up before, and we were able to cycle the transfer case up and down enough to help the module \"learn\" the correct position, and all was well. This time it left us stranded. No big deal, but it is happening to her G right now. In that instance I wanted to be driving the G that's being auctioned, since that control is manual. This instance almost made me pull this auction here on BAT, but the wheels were already in motion. I guess I am not totally disconnected from this vehicle, yet :-)\n\n-The clip above the radio is factory. I have seen this same clip in the same place on some of the Bundeswehr G Wagens I've owned over the years. I am not sure what it's sthere for, but I believe that the A/C selector switch is supposed to go there on AC equipped vehicle.\n\n-No, this G isn't for a California buyer. Luckily we have 49 more states, and a few outlying territories where it would be well accepted.\n-@robert.carrier, Yes this is the perfect mix of G style, mixed with G simplicity, rolled into the 90s MB quality, coupled to a straight 6 engine very similar to the 300E, and bullet proof. This is THE reason I bought this G when I did, and not a G500. Fact is my wife fell in love with this G, but wanted all the modern amenities, so thats why she sold her Suburban to buy the G500.....Ultimately a \"3G\" family is too much when you have the addiction to military vehicles that I do.\n\n-@ollieinAZ It looks like from the bidding that the others here in the auction are about as worried about the \"Feds coming to confiscate it\" as I was when I bought it.... Thats \"not at all\". Why? The vehicle was properly federalized, meaning it was shipped here properly and Wallace Laboratories gained the certification. I import about a dozen vehicles a year from Holland, and I am much more worried about any of those being \"confiscated\" than this G. I just hope they don't come get my 1944 Kubelwagen, or that they allow my U1700 Unimog to come across the wharf next week when it hits Customs. \n\n-The white lettering on the tires has been my personal preference. Why? Because I tried them with black wheels and black lettering, and the tires just got lost... It was too much black. If the black letters are exposed, I think the wheels need to be silver for contrast, but I don;t like silver wheels. The new owner can do whatever he wants. It tok me 20 minutes with my tire machine and the spare wheel (still silver) to prove that i like the current look better than all other combinations.\n\n-The power front windows are a rare option on a G of this era. I have never seen another that had them, and they work very god, they are the fastest windows I have seen! \n\n-The SRS light has a mind of its own. Sometimes its on, sometimes it not. I made sure it was on in the one pic to help show any issues with the vehicle clearly. I had to cycle the key, and drive around on some bumps for 5 minutes to get it to illuminate, so more than likely its a loose connection. I haven;t been worried about it- I typically don't own cars new enough to have an airbag, anyway. Thats just me.\n-@teenchy This truck is located 15 miles from Sanford Stadium, yes, we are a Bulldawg family... I have to admit that my wife is the football fan, to me, well..... Its not a sport unless it has a \"motor\".\n\n-@john in DC I have owner all the Gs from the 230,240, 250 and 300GD. Of the diesels the best \"Wolf\" was my old 250GD with the 5 speed manual. It was great, and it was as fast as a Bundeswehr G is supposed to be. I sold that one a while back and the current owner sent me a pic of it last week, after a 6,000 mile Canadian excursion. Of the older 461 chassis G's my favorite is the 230 petrol engine, as it has some zip. \n\n-At the end of the day I could probably go to the nth degree and have the Title sorted. The fact is that it never gave me any issues, and all the numbers jive with the VIN and etc. It doesn't appear that its hurting the value of the vehicle.\n\n-I have a few new parts that will go with the G, including some genuione brake pads, all the AC parts, and some new in box turn signal guards.\n\n-The ad also failed to mention that I updated the turn signals to LED units. These are much brighter for oncoming traffic, but more important,y they don;t blind the driver at night like the factory lights of this era did.\n\n-Also, I have had all the windows tinted professionally. That really helped the look of this G more than you can imagine, and helped with cabin temperatures.\n\nFeel free to ask me any more questions. I have owned several with this configuration in the USA over the years. The newest was a 1 of 6 AMG import 1994 Green G320s and so even AMG got that odd option, with no rear power windows. All of the Gwagens with this setup that i have seen so far have had cloth interiors. Cars with Leather interiors seem to include rear power windows, especially after 1993 (G320 and G350 Diesel)\r\n\r\nLooks like a nice example. They had there state run smog stations.....like some other states......I drove it onto there Dino, ran it up and was done. The technician told me the requirements were so loose on Non commercial Diesels that he had never gad one fail. The 300GD diesel is common. I've had a couple of those over the years too.. No comparison with the GE, though... Its so much faster, and smoother. My favorite diesel was a Bundeswehr 250GD, it was a 5 speed manual, and was by far the best diesel G of all. It makes more power than the 300GD, and was nimble too.
