I bought the '72 model as a senior in high school, cost $850 new. That was before the RD model designation when Yamaha called it a DS7. It was my first street bike, and I loved the sound of a 2-stroke twin. But I couldn't stand not having a dirt bike so I traded it back in; couldn't afford both flipping hamburgers for $1.50 an hour. \r\n\r\nIt was a blast to ride, and I thought it was pretty fast! I tried to race a Harley big twin off a traffic light and found out it wasn't as fast as I thought! LOL! Nice survivor, it should do well. And not that it matters, but it's probably a 5-speed not a 6-speed. I didn't get a buck-fifty until I'd been working there for a year. \n\nBut I spent every nickel I made on motorcycles, my preferred brand at the time was Yamaha. In the fall of 1972, I traded-in a fairly thrashed Honda Trail 90 on a new 175 Enduro. It wouldn't run clean on top, fouled the plug and crapped out. I only kept it a few months and traded it for a 5-speed 250 DS7. As I mentioned earlier, I couldn't wait to ride off-road again, so in the summer of '73 I traded the 250 for an MX125 motocrosser. It was a blast to ride in the sand dunes, especially with a paddle tire, but it didn't run much better than the 175, constantly fouling plugs. Nevermind I was running Yamalube in the auto-injection system. \n\nIn the dealer's showroom was one remaining 360 Enduro, marked down from $1,050 to $900. I had to have it. But the dealer didn't want to take the 125 back on trade, because MX bikes depreciate 50% as soon as you roll them out the door. However like many teenagers, I had nothing better to do than pester the salesman to make my trade (day). By now we were well acquainted, because damn few other customers had purchased four bikes from him in less than a year (no other teenagers I'm sure). He finally got tired of fending me off, and I got my 360. Turned out to be one of the best on-off road bikes I ever owned, certainly in the 70s. I kept it for two years, my personal best at the time! The resto project taught me a lot about the history and details of these bikes. Example: Yamaha used 7 different shades of black on these bikes. Many parts are not shared between the years 73 to 75 as most people believe. They will fit but they are not the same. I now live in the same city where this bike is for sale.
