Those cars were not available with a manual transmission but did have the updated 5 speed steptronic auto trans. This car's correct model designation is \"850i.\" The other thing worth mentioning is that BMW throwing star wheels are 17\" in diameter, not 18\".\r\n\r\nI absolutely love these cars though, I have a nearly identical 1991 850i 6 speed in Alpine White, with two-tone dove grey interior. Very enjoyable and it gets a ton of looks. I have 18\" M Parallels powdercoated white and it is lowered, which makes a world of difference in appearance. The pictures in this auction don't do the color justice. We sold our black on black car with half the mileage (on BaT) because we like the white better. We took it to The Hawk vintage fest in Elkhart Lake a few weeks ago and the car got a lot of compliments and attention, even amongst the million dollar Ferraris and race cars that surrounded it. Truly a modern classic.\r\n\r\nAs for maintenance issues on these cars, the engine themselves are great, I am surprised it needed a head gasket. Typically you will see more issues with the electronic throttle bodies and the control units for the throttle bodies and engine banks. Also intake manifold gaskets wear and are laborious to replace. Suspension wears out due to the weight of the car but that is common on all BMWs.\r\n\r\nFortunately there is a vast amount of information available on the internet to help keep these alive. They earned a bad reputation in the early years because of their complicated electronics, but they are downright simple compared to modern cars.\r\n\r\nGood luck to the seller, it will be interesting to see how far it goes.
