My slightly modified 128 (slicktop, manual-heated-sport seats, HID's, coilovers, slightly lightened wheels, and some lightened exhaust sections) just came in at 3125#. I'd consider that excellent for a modern BMW with modern safety. \r\n\r\nAlso, for anyone interested in the 128 platform, the N51/N52 are very very stout motors. My N51 (my car is a SULEV car), which comes with the 3 stage intake manifold, is tuned and put down 219whp on a Mustang Dyno (should read about 230-240whp on a Dynojet), which should come out to somewhere around 270-280 naturally aspirated, nice to rev, super smooth inline6 hp. \r\n\r\nBMW really advanced their platforms after the E46/E39 era and the 128 benefits from those changes. Mechanical grip is good and the car tackles HPDE and long highway drives with ease. I'm a fan of the E9X's but really wished they'd be lighter and a bit smaller. Enter the 1 series platform, since it's pretty much a shortened and lightened E9X. The wheelbase is shorter than the E36's and the lightness matches that of the E36. I daily drive a Black on Black 128i 6MT sport. I previously had a 6 cylinder E36 and and this is everything I loved about that car but with modern touches, livability and more power. (And less annoying 90\u2019s plastic pieces! Haha) If you compare this to an E36 M3 North American spec, the 128i is a lot closer than people seem to realize when you look at the values of the 128i. Shorter wheelbase actually, similar power, same weight and an extra gear for the highway. The LSD is the big mechanical difference I would say but you can solve for that if you want to. Doesn\u2019t have the cache of an E36 M3 but performance is pretty similar honestly. \r\n\r\nLots of smiles per dollar here!
