It was advertised in the Nickel ads with under 45K original miles. I went to look at the car because of the low miles. It had been put in the garage years earlier when the original owner had passed. The family had kept the car stored but had neglected the basics of long term storage. With a dozen or so years parked, it was running rather poorly with the installation of a new battery being the only post storage work done. Thankfully, gas in those days had a bit longer shelf life so the fuel system was not destroyed. \r\nI bought the car. It was only a few blocks from my home so once there an immediate oil change, fluid check and some fresh gas was done. I had a horrible time getting her to run right. After a tune-up, the misfire that had plagued me was still there. I finally gave up and took the car to a friends shop. The problem? I had retained the cap as it looked fine but underneath there was a carbon build up that was wreaking havoc with the spark. \r\nI don't recall the exact miles when I purchased the car but indeed, it was under 45K and it showed. Perfect interior with all but perfect body and paint work. Under the expansive hood the 400 rested in 100% unmolested condition. No hotrod by any means, the engine powered the big car down the highway with ease. The automatic transmission, power steering and brakes made for easy cruising. \r\nThe purchase price for this gem? With it running poorly and big cars being not too sought after in those days, $400.\r\nWe drove the car for a year or so before getting children and car seats in and out of the back became too much. \r\nNice car, and nice to see one on the market. I believe this is the first one I have seen for sale since parting with mine, much less an almost identical version. Dashes and consoles in the full size cars were looking rather plasticky and boring by 1968. By the time this one came out, it was a bit of a throwback.
