I had a LOT of fun selling my 1968 Volvo 145 last October here on Bring-A-Trailer, so I\u2019m excited to be back to find this car a good home, too!\r\n\r\nThis is a 1973 Volvo 145, affectionately nicknamed \u201cThe Green Bean.\u201d As can be implied from the photos, this is a project \u2013 it has been sitting 32 years! No, it does not run. But hey, it\u2019s a Volvo\u2026 it probably will. I gave the car a quick wash, vacuum, and a very hasty polish to make the neighbors happy, but it otherwise sits exactly how I found it.\r\n\r\nSquint through the dust and this is an interesting car, aesthetically. Original Volvo Cypress Green paint (Sounds cooler than just calling it \u201cdark green,\u201d right?), a surprisingly nice brown interior, metal roof rack, and look at those vintage badges! With the green exterior and the brown interior, this old Swede is throwing off some classic British vibes, that\u2019s for sure.\r\n\r\nThe story goes that the upholstery was redone and the engine was rebuilt around 1992; upon reassembly, they were unable to get the D-Jet to behave properly, hence it being parked. It was then sold as a parts car shortly after, where it sat until my purchase in summer of 2023. Unsure how many miles they put on the engine rebuild, though a fresh rebuild may be a good idea anyway with how long it\u2019s been. Speaking of miles, did you see the odometer only shows 79,000? I know these odometers can break sometimes, but I prefer to be optimistic.\r\n\r\nIncluded with the Volvo:\r\n-REPLACEMENT HOOD! You can say adios to that bent one, because I have a spare \u2013 it\u2019s even green! It\u2019s plenty faded and far from perfect, but that\u2019s a start!\r\n-Spare radiator support (the original has a dent behind the front bumper).\r\n-Spare driver-side fender. Do note, the replacement radiator support and fender are Volvo Ocean Green, which is a much lighter shade.\r\n-Replacement front vent window for the driver-side door.\r\n-Spare set of wheels\r\n-Crisp high five when you take it home.\r\n\r\nAt the end of the day, this is a tired old station wagon that\u2019s needing some love. Out of all the platforms to give this car a second chance at life, I know this is the best.\r\n\r\nIf you read this far, you must be a little tiny bit intrigued, right? And that is OK. It is also OK that they (the 'haters\") share their thoughts with the community. After all, this is the USA, and most of us value our right to free speech. Constructive criticism is generally appreciated as it might provide some valuable input towards a particular listing.\r\nI do not believe in \"flagging\" comments. For a different perspective it's important to remember that there are literally thousands of dollars in parts in this car if one decides the body is terminal. \r\nAnother important consideration is we see a lot of great bodies with NO TITLE. This one has a clean Idaho title. Good as gold. \r\nThis project may seem insurmountable to some, but if you've got a clean carcass somewhere in the community you live in you're in business. \r\nAll the Bosch systems have a pretty good amount of manuals available, and a ton of free videos on the YouTube. You can assemble the necessary diagnostic tools on Amazon for pretty cheap and then the worst that's going to happen to you is you might learn something. What resulted was a \u201cshotgun \u201c approach that resulted in outrageous repair costs. The automatic transmission, BW35 was used in many different makes. Unlike the BW/AW 55 and 70 series, they used brake bands that required periodic adjustment as they wore down. What resulted was the servo piston seal would fail and prevent certain gears from working. A 340 powered Dodge Aspen wagon that needs help. A Volkswagen Cabriolet Golf that is awaiting a VR6 implant. \r\nWe take all comers. We get creative, and, either refresh, modify, or completely restore. \r\nThis one will be restored. It's the right thing to do, and, based on my experience, looking at the pics, it can be done. The 'bones are there'...just patience, and the skill of our tin-knockers. I already have a 92 240 wagon that is nearly complete, that Ive had forever. I have an affinity for Volvos...my Dad bought his first 240 wagon in 1984. We all loved that car, and it got wrecked with over a million miles on the clock. He went right out and purchased a 740 Turbo wagon. Gave that one to me when it turned 350k. Got an another Turbo wagon. Finished with an original X-Country...so, they are not foreign to me. At all. Just ordered a new V-90 wagon for the wife...from the factory. Awaiting delivery in April. I enjoy their almost intuitive simplicity, and their progress in technology up to a point is almost imperceptible, if that makes sense. No to wax philosophical but... This 'story' encapsulated in a vehicle deserves a second chance, much as many people have afforded all of us. WE just don't see too many 145's around any more...and that would be a shame if they disappeared altogether.
