Many people install aftermarket dashboards made of a variety of woods. This one appears to be mahogany, and may very well be the original which, under the upholstery, was made of mahogany veneered plywood. One wonders why the factory covered it with Rexine. The windshield wiper motors are expensive, but can be repaired. I've overhauled mine three times in ten years. If you drive the car in the rain, Rain-X is better than the windshield wipers, but they do work in a pinch. The factory didn't move the motor to the center until 1953, and then moved it under the hood for the TF - good move. This appears to be a good car. People who buy these cars without knowing them rapidly find out that they are slow by modern standards. That said, they are also a tremendous amount of fun. I drive mine regularly and it keeps up with traffic. There are all kinds of modifications you can make. The best thing for a new owner to do is join one of the myriad clubs out there.
