To me, the interface looks 'period' to the 1980's. The backlight color is selectable, so the driver can choose red to match the E30 interface. As the listing describes, the CD player itself is finicky (I love the listing's choice of words: intermittently inoperable). Here's the scoop: The MBX has a 6-disc changer that can be loaded from behind the face. Sometimes that works fine, and sometimes it doesn't. The radio always works perfectly, and that's actually enough for me. I couldn't find anyone in Toronto who services Nakamichi car audio, but when I asked my garage, they simply unplugged it, plugged it back in, and then the CD changer worked perfectly again for awhile. So, I suspect that the disc changer mechanism is a fiddly thing, but likely is essentially sound. The MBX would probably be happier if it lived in a city where someone can service Nakamichi head units and sort out this quirk permanently. I hope that is your city! Anyways, this is probably the longest commentary ever on BaT about a car stereo, but I wish to offer full disclosure. The auction includes a BMW CD43 Business CD unit and required wiring adapter for that head unit, a spare dash trim piece which could be modified if desired so that an aftermarket unit would sit flush, and several OEM E30 tape decks. I have three of them and am including all of them. They each came out of E30's which I have owned. One of them is the one which came with this car, but I cannot recall which one that is. The main reason I am selling is that we decided to have a third child not long after I bought the car! ... and E30 M3's only have 4 seats. That's also much of why it hasn't actually accrued much mileage. I have loved every moment driving it, but it doesn't work as a summer weekend family outing car which was the intention, because our fifth member arrived shortly after the car arrived. So, I have always driven other, more practical vehicles to actually get around, and taken the M3 out for little spins by myself. My kids call it \"daddy's toy\". Then, in 2016 I found a 16K mile 2002 E46 M3 which I bought. It doesn't give me the quite the same 'swiss watch' feeling of the E30, but it's also a great car, and it has the three seats in the back. The whole process takes about 1/2 hr to 1 hr at the border. Your state may have other rules and may make up rules on the fly, but it mostly relates to incompetency and lack of knowledge on imports.\n\n- Any car originally sold by the manufacturer in Canada can be imported to the US regardless of age. As you can see, it is actually a small area (thinner than a pencil, shorter than an eraser) in the floor of the trunk next to the battery tray. There is no perforation - it feels very solid. The underbody, and the battery tray itself are solid. I did not notice this small area of corrosion when I sent the car to be repainted a year ago, because the trunk is usually carpeted and also protected with a rubber Hex-O-Mat, otherwise I would have had it dealt with at that time. It came to my attention while photographing the car for sale, and I wanted to be sure to show it in the photos. I will also point out to prospective buyers that there are small areas in the floor of the trunk which seem to have had some silver paint applied by hand. This work was done previous to my ownership, and I do not have details around it. It could be speculated that there was some surface corrosion which was treated at some point and then painted by hand, but again this paint was applied prior to my tenure so the best light I can shed is to include the photos - which show it clearly. The floor itself is solid, non-distorted, no unusual creasing, etc. I do stand by the car as being very solid, and can tell you that my mechanics are always quite impressed by the condition of the underbody when the car is up on the hoist. I have uploaded a screenshot of the correspondence, which has been added to the gallery, but will summarize here: \n\nIn response to inquiries in this discussion, I took the car to my shop, and went hunting for the engine number. It is quite difficult to locate. We found a number that was cast on the right side of the engine, and sent that to BMW. We also found a stamped number on the transmission, and sent that as well. \n\nEngine: as I suspected (from forum wisdom), the cast number from the right side of the engine (1307254.9.) is not what the Archive requires as a reference. They wish to know a certain stamped number. My mechanics and I tried quite hard to see the spot where the engine number should be stamped (a flat spot facing upwards on the lower rear of the engine up against the firewall), using a fiberoptic scope, from above, from below, etc., but in the end we were not able to see it. There are hoses, lines, etc. in the way. I can absolutely warranty that I am not concealing a non-matching numbers car, but I am simply not able to see it without taking apart the car, which I am not willing to do for this purpose. I wholeheartedly believe that this is the original engine in its original car, as there has never been any suggestion made to me otherwise, the condition of the engine and car are concordant with a sensibly used, low-mileage E30M3, and I have absolutely not replaced the engine. \n\nIf anyone can actually read the engine serial number on this vehicle without disassembling some of the mechanical elements of the car, I will buy you a great steak dinner!\n\nMore straightforwardly, I was able to read the transmission number: 0000916ACM. I am happy to report that BMW Group Archive was able to confirm that this is the correct, original transmission that should be in this vehicle.
