You can see some faint outlines on the pics in bare metal where the holes were filled.\n\n@Frank Barrett @weissach I haven't seen one like that either, the car drives really well and alignment is correct. \n\nI don't know who overhauled the engine originally. My suspicion is the heads were overmachined and deck height was not correct from the outset. \n\nTo address questions about the engine - I had purchased the car from a listing on Rennlist, based on very comprehensive pictures and good conversations from the prior owner. He was a fellow PCA member and purchasing another P-car. When I received the car it was down on power despite my troubleshooting/tune up. I own another stock '68 912 and had a direct comparison.\n\n I fixed a worn throttle pedal bushing, that was one problem... I brought the car to European Collectibles and they thought the engine should come out. It was clear from leakdown testing that something was amiss. The bottom end was examined and felt to be in good condition. The prior mechanic probably used worn cylinder heads (machined too much and crack in #4 spark plug hole) the pistons looked very good and everything was assembled as outlined in the invoice. Both cylinder heads were replaced with very good reconditioned units, as noted in the invoice for $1300. Several additional items were also addressed 'while they were in there'\n\nI am very happy with the way the car runs. It now has a punchier mid range than my other stock 1.6L 912. The MSD is not really needed, per discussion with another 912 expert, but the car starts very easily regardless. \n\n@Talbot78SC brakes were serviced by prior owner and I bled them- they work very well. The car also has Bilstein Sport rear shocks and rebuilt stock spring plates (non adjustable). The suspension has great body control and suppleness from the 185/70 tires. Back window probably has a URO, non Porsche gasket. Correct deck height is .040 to .060. \r\n\r\n-No Lower air channels (AKA Flapper boxes), no heat to interior of car and makes engine run super hot as all the cooling air blasts out around the exhaust ports avoiding the hottest area with the least fins between the cylinders.\r\n\r\n-Rear tray missing vertical braces from exhaust allowing tray to drop away from rear seal-allows fan to pull pre-heated air back into engine. \r\n \r\n-Appears to be missing plate over#2 exhaust pipe at head-provides more hot air for the fan.\r\n\r\n-Missing spark plug wire holders-again more pre-heated air being recycled.\r\n\r\n-Crank case breather venting into engine compartment-allows fan to ingest oily fumes,that coat fan, oil cooler, heads and barrels. The lack of heat hasn\u2019t bothered me in San Diego though :) The heater vents in the body are intact under the carpet. I don\u2019t have the interior covers.\n\nThe KN filter is the typical \u2018hot rod\u2019 modification which I haven\u2019t corrected since I bought the car. I have tried ordering a correct looking \u2018accordian\u2019 breather hose to plumb into the Weber carbs to no avail.
