Not even a glimpse of the mystery pyramid in the background?!?!?) \r\n\r\nSeeing this car in this setting definitely brings back some memories. I grew up in San Luis Obispo and in the early 1970s would walk home from school past the parking lot of San Luis Medical Clinic. One of the docs had a brand new 1800ES and the design was so innovative and cool that I kinda fell in love with it. It took me until the early 1980s before I bought my first ES -- it was a 1973 and was my daily driver for about 15 years before it finally hit the point where my mechanic felt it wasn't worth repairing (400K + miles on it by then). A client gave me another ES in lieu of payment for my services (the recession necessitated some interesting working arrangements) and my mechanic kept it working really well -- these cars make for an easy drive from Malibu to SLO or up to Sonoma or points east. There was a 1964 1800S somewhere in there and a Mark IV VW R32 as well, but the 1972 ES was the car that hit all the buttons for me car-wise. \r\n\r\nEventually the small oil leaks and constant aroma of gas and leather (and the whispery AC system that was no match for the Southern CA summers) proved too much for my gf and it was either the car or me and I opted to sell the car rather than live in it. After dalliances with other manufacturers, I stumbled upon an amazing 1997 Volvo 850R (it came equipped with just about every go-fast mod in the IPD catalogue) and I was back in the Volvo family. I miss the fits-like-a-glove driving experience inherent in the 1800s but the power of the 850 R (with its current engine configuration mine has about 3X the horsepower than even the heavily modded B20 in my last ES) more than makes up for it. Yeah, I prefer the swoopy, almost salacious styling of the 1800 but the boxy mom-car look of the 850 doesn't attract a lot of attention from the authorities so it's a fair trade off. I still figure that I've got one more 1800 resurrection ahead of me. The originals were all chrome without the black rubber insert in the middle. They were also a little bit shorter and didn't run as far back on the car. I believe the stopped about halfway above the rear wheel well but I'm sure one of the watchers here on BaT could give you even better information.\r\n\r\nThe alignment of the door and trunk aren't far off and I do believe some minor adjustments would make a big difference. There are two primary reasons we wont be attempting an adjustment. First (and most importantly) the car is not ours. Anytime you are doing cosmetic adjustments/repairs the results are subjective and I would be very hesitant to alter a persons vehicle and have them feel the results are not to their satisfaction. Secondly, we do not have the facilities to do this kinds of work. We are a small dealership and do not have an on site shop. All of our inspections and repairs are sublet to local repair shops. This means we would be the party in the middle of a hired body shop and the owner of the car some 300+ miles away. I hope that makes sense.\r\n\r\nLastly, I will make a follow up video showing the locations of the repairs and the two hairline cracks in the paint. Honestly, I doubt the panel gaps are an issue for most bidders anyway, as these classic Volvos seem to always show some variability from car to car. Not unlike just about all cars from that era, except maybe some German makes.\r\n\r\nBut, more info re: the bodywork will certainly be of interest to all potential bidders, given the propensity toward rusting in the 1800 series. I believe I've read that the later 1800S's, and 1800E's and ES's had much improved anti-rust treatment during assembly, though, so that would be a big plus for this car.\r\n\r\nAny chance of posting pics of the seats with the sheepskins removed? The walk-around video does give a quick glimpse showing some expected creases and wear, but it would be helpful to see the entire seat surfaces, front and back.
