He had arthritis in his hands and it was time to let go of the manual. I had a brand new E90 330i, and he gave me his keys for a test drive. I took the car out for an hour, and the next day I sold my new car to buy this E30 M3.\n\nIn 2008, I moved for work and drove it to Washington DC where it stayed garaged while I used my daily driver 128i. \n\nI moved back to Austin in late 2010 and drove the car back where it was garaged some more. \n\nOnce more I relocated (2011) to my hometown in South Florida, and the car was transported here on a trailer. \n\nI only manage to make it to about 2 car shows a year, but this car loves to be driven. It has never broken down or failed to start, and I would have no hesitation to hop in and drive it across the country right now. Find one that has avoided the Salt Belt and the condition of some of these cars is mind-boggling. Oh, and you can wrench on them and buy discounted parts online without ever having to talk to the parts department at the local dealership. \r\n\r\nFWIW, I'm putting 25k miles/year on my 2003 535iT. They were also vanilla sedans that spent most of their lives plying Northeast roads. I've now lived in California for 20 years (in August!) and I would never consider buying a car from anywhere it snows. I had an E34M5 that spent it's first two years in Michigan, and it was WAY more trouble to deal with suspension repairs. The body was fine, but the bolts all took impact wrenches. Since then, I rarely have to use a breaker bar.
