Not a Pep Boys option, but fair enough, it does have that vibe. \n\nThe styling was compromised in an era where bumpers were answering the questions that metal sub-structure could not. So the bandaid had to be applied and sadly it truly wreaked havoc on the visual elegance of the original design. That said, a few hours of bumper removal does wonders for the car - but then you are no longer showing an original car. And in the case of cars this old, the \"styling\" is part of the story you tell when people care to learn about the history of cars. \n\nOne of the great things about automotive history is you can't lie about it or change the story. The artifact (when remaining original) tells the EXACT story. Metal is really hard to hide. We can toss out clothing from the 70's or trim back the mullet - a car can't do that so easily. So you embrace the metal, tell the history about it, and strangely\u2026as you engage in it, you begin to empathize with the car and accept the conditions that come with it's existence. \n\nI think this is a big part of the integrity we all seek in honest cars. Here are a few more details, not covered in the listing, as well as answers to a few questions.\nThe previous owner owned the car for more than ten years; in fact he is the one who took care of the repaint in 2000, and decided at the same time and since then to cure all the inherent JH5 faults or bugs:\na) 5-speed Getrag: nice unit, same as in the BMW 2002 I think, but a bit notchy and 5th is 1:1... It was changed for a Toyota unit, taken from a Celica, and 5th is an overdrive. At 70 mph, the engine is turning at 3500 rpm and is less noisy than the Getrag. The gears do not crunch, and the lever action is slick and precise.\nb) The engine was rebuilt, top and bottom, and many parts were changed over the years: alternator, radiator, water pump, electronic ignition, driveshaft, fuel tank, fuel pump, 1975 headers, etc., and as shown in the pictures, the engine compartment is almost as new.\nc) The body - top and underside - is in excellent condition: nice gaps, straight panels, not a speck of rust, paint nice and very shiny.\nd) Interior in great shape, except for one wear mark on the driver's seat left bolster (shown in one of the pictures). It doesn't show in the pictures, but all the dash wooden parts are all covered with a protective plastic film. The PO told me it was there when he bought the car, and I pesume it was there when the car was bought new because the SCCA sticker on the glove compartment is glued over it. Anyway, the wood is protected and shows no cracks or discoloration.\ne) The PO removed the sway bars (hre in Qu\u00e9bec our secondary roads are sometimes really rough and rattle-inducing) and I find that the ride is a bit on a the soft side, but very comfortable. He also changed the Monza exhaust that came with the car because he found it too noisy. The front spoiler was removed because it sits pretty low and the PO was afraid of breaking it. The car also came with a street roll-bar, that fits right over the custom rear wind deflector.\nf) Speaking of the front spoiler, whose main use is to prevent the engine from overheating, the PO took out the A/C system (not very useful in an open car) but kept the front fan, which is now a thermostatic unit, but it can be controlled manually by the A/C dash control unit. Engine overheating problem cured, without the front spoiler. But, up until now, I have never had to use it; even stopped in heavy traffic, the temperature needle stays right in the middle.\ng) Spare parts (short list): front spoiler, Monza muffler, front and rear swaybars, Getrag transmission, A/C system, plus brand new roof, still in it's box, boxful of documentation (JH shop manual, JH parts catalogue, lists of parts ordered for the engine overhaul, several books on the history of JH company and cars, numerous bulletins (JH Preservation Society and White Lady Association) and the original and rare JH5 wiring diagram.\nh) Reason for selling: I can't use the car as I would like to - When the weather is nice and I could drive the car with the top down I am working, and when I have the time to use it, the weather doesn't seem to cooperate. This car deserves to be owned and driven by someone living in a better climate!\n\nFinally, a few answers to questions: 1) no, the dash clock is not original, and has been added a few years ago; 2) I agree about the whitewalls; the Kelly tires are in top shape, but noisy at speed; I would go for better tires, ideally on 15-inch Panasports; 3) the rounded frame rail in the engine compartment: the PO said nothing about a sizable impact, and all the rest seems ok; I will try to take a better picture and add it to the gallery; 4) the Toyota 5-speed was born in a Celica; 5) wiring far from stock: I couldn't tell, but the PO, a mechanic by trade, new what he was doing and I guess that if he changed anything, it was probably for the better.\n\nEnough said. Part of my purchase agreement was the seller would pay all fees to get it titled and then sell to me. He got clobbered in the process. The original was basically a 16 gauge steel shell topped with a thin piece of stainless steel. It doesn't offer too terribly much in the way of protection but will absorb impacts. The rubber, 5 mph bumper is an entirely different construction of steel and 3/8 inch aluminum. The former can be picked up with one hand, the latter, as posted earlier, is in the neighborhood of 50 lbs each. \n\nSwitching to the older style involves finding the parts and some cutting of the 5 mph mounts on the body to fit the older style mounts. Used bumpers and mounts routinely show up on ebay for about $150 +/- front or back but not including the stainless trim. The whole process takes at least a few weeks before the car is picked-up.\nI have contacted a Canada-US transporter based in Toronto and have asked them to send me a quote for the transport of my car to Miami, as an example. All are the go-to folks.\n\nI grew up in Toronto, had an eye for all things Jensen, and there were lots of JHs around then; many went to the US after a while, even then, in the late 70s and early 80s. Did my graduate work at USC, and I used to detour on my way into campus every now and then to check out a very nice navy blue one in Toluca Lake. Always liked that flat rear deck and long nose; some cars just have lines that satisfy -- to me, the JH is such a car. \n\nSeveral Interceptors out here on the coast have been snapped up with the low CDN dollar, and some are still going south into the US but, lately, mostly back to the UK and points east where the real money is for Jensens, these days.
