I was told it was a 9000 pounder when I bought it. The winch works, it free spools and goes in and out under power. That being said, judging by how old it looks and not knowing the condition of the cable I would never use it for anything other than pulling shopping carts at the mall. The side steps, the tire carrier, roll bar, and equalizer hitch were all dealer installed items. I would also do a new windshield. This one has a very small crack in it at the bottom of the drivers side. Plus when you are driving into the sunset you can see how old it is, pitting, sandblasted, its just old. You have some common denominators here. One, the vehicle is more than 25 years old. Therefore, is does not have to meet US Federal emissions and safety standards. Less forms and no inspection time for that. Two, it is a North American built vehicle so there are no duty/import fees for that, (thanks NAFTA). Otherwise you'd be paying duties on your purchase price, a %. \n\nGranted, there are other considerations with driving the vehicle back that I did not have. I was trailering it, so no temp registration or insurance issues. I'd say it's worth the extra cost/trouble of using a trailer, but it's not hard to drive it back, legally. \n\nI arrived at the Blain, WA, crossing at about 9 pm and was thru in 30 min with no costs. I was also prepared, right forms, properly filled out (like only 3) etc. And, the key phrase when arriving at the crossing is, \"I'm importing this vehicle for personal use.\" \n\nPoint here being - don't be afraid of the process. I had never done it before, and would do it again.
