The car belonged to a local dentist. It was his pride and joy. The car never left town and was only driven on nice days. It spent it life in a drive in basement on carpeting. Everybody in town knew the car. Roder, one of the museum directors/ benefactor. lusted after the car for years. The dentist would not sell, he had lots of offers. After the dentist pasted away his son sold the caddy to rodger because he knew that the car would have a good home and Rodger would pay more than anyone had ever paid for one. The mileage may be actual, but as the last owner is deceased we can not verify. I just uploaded pics of the inside of the hood, rear of trunk, pedals and carpets. The ONLY rust is surface where the paint is scratched. The pic in the trunk is NOT rust, it is carpet glue. The brake and gas pedals show no wear. the carpet looks just as new as it did in 1959. Lets be clear as to what you are looking at. There has been NO detail work, armor all, spray paint, under coat, or any camouflage done to the car. Outside of maintenance the only major work on the car was an excellent exterior only repaint in the 1990's. The paint is dead straight, smooth, and shinny. Top was also replaced at the same time. Yes the power windows all work. Yes the top goes up and down if you jump the switch. Yes the power antenna works if the ignition is on. Yes there is rust on the bolt on the battery terminal as it is 60 years old. The only seat damage is the left bolster. The seam was split and Rodger hooked his belt on it tearing the old leather. Ideally to match the seat an old piece of leather is needed. Motor runs great. No smoke or ticks. Tranny shifts perfect, Steers fine. Brakes work, but i would not actively use the car without going over them and also clean the carb. This may be the best unmolested, unrestored, original survivor 59 caddy convertible. The car runs and drives nicely, brakes do work, but has not been driven over 500 miles in the last twenty years. From experiance with other cars that have sat in the museum for a long time i always have the master cyl and wheel cyls replaced and silicone fluid before actively using the car.
