We also don't have unlimited garage space so this seemed like the logical choice to offer on BaT. This one does drive and handle well with impressive acceleration. They've been using them in many models since about 2010 ish.\r\nIf you look at used outbacks from 2010 you can find many with high mileage, ofcourse there will always be some with transmissions that were serviced. However more often than not, you will find the majority have the original fluid thats 12 years old and has a 160k plus and it still works.\r\nWith these, believe it or not, the weak spot isn't the trans, it was the torque converters. Alot of then stuttered when going in and out of gear, many got their trans worked on, so they assumed the trans was faulty on them by inexperienced mechanics and the like. They were known to fail, albeit, after 130k plus. Well taken care of outbacks, last a long time.\r\nThe real problem with these, is they claim to do it all. I.e. haul. If you haul with this, short term, who cares, long term u will eventually run into an issue.\r\nThese 2.5's were amazing. The 2.4's are pretty good too.\r\nIf you added the head gasket they used on the wrx's, you will never have that issue on the 2.5's.\r\nEarly they had timing belts, which was a costly maintenance item. When they went to chains again (2014 ish for many models) they also had issues with leaking oil from that area.\r\nNow, they're pretty squared away.\r\nIn either case, Subaru has been and still is one of the best CVT producers in the game. You cannot compare a cvt today to those of a decade ago. They are light years ahead.\r\nI'd say now, the cvte from toyota is the best. Im hoping since Subaru and toyota came together on their Ev lines, they will pick up toyotas cvte at some point.\r\nEither case, the Outback is the best normal Subaru u can get.\r\nIt's the one they put the most into and have the majority of their brand staked on. Its their bread and butter.\r\nWrx's don't pay the bills for subaru.\r\nWith all that said, these would be sitting on dealer floors everywhere if this was 3 years ago.\r\nNot because they're not great, but because the premium can basically do everything this can.\r\nAlso, its a subaru outback at the end of the day.\r\nI do love it though.
