As I recall, the ABS models were priced around $25k, and BMW had just launched the S1000RR for around $16k with nearly 190bhp. HP2 Sport was a pretty hard sell and you had to be a hardcore boxer-nut to want one. I was, and I did, and I really enjoyed the bike. There were some massive incentives from BMW to get the last couple dozen bikes sold, and I was lucky enough to land one of those deals. It wasn't fast but it was quick, if that makes sense. They're built like a Rolex, with lots of beautiful details that you could admire for hours. Sound is amazing, even with the stock exhaust. It's a bike that really benefits from a slipper clutch. The Pelican Parts forum was the place to hang out if you had one, with handful of active owners that really knew them inside and out. I believe the serial numbers were tied to how many made, which I recall was something around 225 bikes. The service manual was interesting; called for a complete engine rebuild at 30k, though the consensus was that this was only necessary for competition bikes.
