I was 30 when I bought my 2005 GM. 10 years and many miles later I still love it. First it held the spot next to a Miata and now it is alongside a 996. It is the perfect companion to cars like those as it does all the things they can't with very little overlap. On the weekends my GrandMa tows a 16ft boat or makes a Costco run with 3 adults, 2 kids in car seats, and the trunk holds All Of It. During the weekday it is a comfortable and quiet office that isn't bothered by potholes or a little idle time. It's simple and cheap to wrench on when needed. The drive experience is your choice of playing chauffeur or stunt driver. Every time I consider selling, anything that matches or beats it's attributes (full size SUV) is 3-4 times the price for comparable condition. It is a surprisingly competent and amusing vehicle to own.\r\nThis is a very attractive example and I love the blue leather. I've read that Ford deconted later year Panthers particularly for interior materials and features so this one might a bit richer inside. \r\nWith the handling package, does this one have rear air suspension? And some pictures of the underside and trunk would be useful. Does this one have the interior trunk release? I've been known to change clothes in the trunk of mine. My commute is basically all traffic so its nice to just sit back and relax in it. They are super quiet and smooth cars. Very similar to this one. This 95 doesn't have the bad intake manifold that came along in 97, a plus. \r\n\r\nI've forgotten some details. Apart from blathering on about how awesome I've found these cars to be (obviously!) some comments spring to mind: The ride is so good I found sacrificing a little of it by installing cargo coils in the back to be well worth it and have done it to all my panthers immediately. They really help flatten it out on turns. Plus they turn this into a truck of sorts. Pull out the back seat bottom (easy), and you can haul an amazing amount of stuff, more than a compact pickup. Weight's crazy too, I once hauled well over a ton on a 300 mile trip no issues (take it out of overdrive with that much weight). \r\n\r\nAlso with the 16\" wheels you can swap in the dual piston front brake setup from 98-02 panthers, a direct junkyard part bolt in. Although this 95 stock brake setup is OK with me, the 95 has larger front discs, rear discs, waaaayyy better than an old small front disc / rear drum setup of yore :)\r\n\r\nGood luck buyer and seller! But if realism and European offerings were important, Matchbox was the way to go.\r\n\r\nAbout the time the die cast cars were packed up and put in the attic (or worse, the garage sale) your choice escalated to Ginger or Mary Ann. Talk about being tormented as you try to grapple with that one.\r\n\r\nAs soon as you feel comfortable with that choice, you\u2019re exposed to Playboy or Penthouse. Who knew periodicals could be so perplexing?\r\n\r\nAfter that, they come rushing at you at a torrid pace you can barely keep up with: Republican or Democrat? Mac or PC? Cable or dish? Coke or Pepsi? Apple or Android?\r\n\r\nBy the time 1995 rolls around and you\u2019re ready for a new set of wheels, you pretty much have the whole \u2018choice\u2019 thing down. It\u2019s between a Grand Marquis and a Roadmaster. (I know the Caprice and Crown Vic are options. But you don\u2019t want to drive a taxi cab or cop car off to your golden years.)\r\n\r\nIf you wanted a wagon, it was an easy call. If you were looking for a sedan, you\u2019re looking at another Ginger or Mary Ann level quandary. \r\n\r\nThe beauty of each and every one of the choices listed here is this... there is no way to make a bad one.\r\n\r\nIn 1995 this MGM would have been a great one. Major complaints were the plastic intake manifold cross over tube that cracked open suddenly and the lower ball joints that were could break loose suddenly with disasterous results . My 1997 had the manifold split close to home and I saved the engine before it overheated in time and my wife was in the car when the right side ballpoint failed and the entire wheel assembly collapsed without warning. Ford had a warranty for police and commercial vehicles but not civilian cars until there was an owners outcry and threat of law suits. There was also an issue with the gas tank becoming punctured in a rear end collision resulting in a recall on police service vehicles IIRC. A proud member and one of the last of our greatest generation, Robert was injured in WW2 and needed a car that was comfortable and dependable. Mercury answered his request after that bloody war with the car he just had to have, a 1946 Mercury 8 Coupe. The feeling he got when he mashed that accelerator pedal allowed him to forget about his injury for a minute or two. Pictures of that very car adorn the walls of his garage workbench still. At that moment, way back when, Robert made a lifelong commitment to Mercury and kept it. Over the years he would have many, some great and some less memorable. In the end he was holding a pair. \r\nHis pride a joy, the beautiful Grand Marquis listed here, and his late wife\u2019s 1980 Zephyr Wagon. He couldn\u2019t bare to sell the wagon after her passing, he could barely stand to drive it, but maintenance demanded otherwise. Oil changes, tire rotations, smog checks.. These all had a schedule and Robert was keen on keeping them all for both his vehicles. He loved the routine and it got him out of the house and out of the Elks Club. He couldn\u2019t really wait the whole 3000 miles or the whole damn year between services, so he\u2019d get that oil changed about every 6 months or 600 miles, whatever came first. \u201cBetter safe than sorry\u201d he\u2019d say. His \u201cfill\u2019er up\u201d gas receipts usually totaled less than $20 bucks. That\u2019s what all his cars deserved and that\u2019s exactly what they all got.\r\nRobert died without heirs in his 90s and left his entire estate to the Salvation Army. \r\nI was was asked to appraise the vehicles and make offers for their purchase which they accepted. I got a small taste of his life that day. Entering his garage was like a step back in time. Every WW2 grandad\u2019s garage looked like this. Perfectly organized and wall to wall home essentials. A green shag carpet pulled from the living room in \u201875 lined the floor. The Grand Marquis started instantly tank brimming with premium. Exiting the garage I couldn\u2019t help but think that this may be the last of these garages I\u2019d ever see. I wish I could have sealed it up for future generations to marvel over. I hope they would they care to see it. I hope I can be a little more like Robert as I age.\r\nA trip through the car wash was all she needed to pose for these pictures. Every small town along the way would have a mechanic familiar with old Crown Vic's and parts cars in the form of retired police cars used by the RCMP could be found everywhere. In addition the trunk is so vast that in addition to luggage it could easy handle a full size spare, a jack, a 4'x3' x3' box filled with hand tools, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, axe and assorted survival equipment and spare parts in the event of a break down. In any event none of these items were needed in the 10000km journey on the lonely highway or another road as we cruised along in comfort while getting an average of 34 mpg. In the black car service, used cars move down the food chain. They were normally retired around 500k miles after a few owners and running near 24 hours a day. Given the means, I'd have a Ferrari and a Panther in the same garage without hesitation. They are great cars and handle better than their size or average buyer would suggest.\r\n\r\nThe lace wheels were part of a specific option and what Ford officially called the Handling & Performance Package. I believe development started with the Mark VII where the wheels on the earliest cars were designed by BBS (RA based it seems) and cast with the BBS logo and included on the center cap but a lawsuit resulting from Ford shifting the production contract and design to Speedline resulted in the removal of branding. Panther cars received a version of the wheel as seen here with a different offset. Subsequent design changes altered finishes and the center pattern ever so slightly but these were always great looking wheels. It's a shame they never came bigger than a 16\"x7\" from Ford. \r\n\r\nGreat example of a Panther. Good luck with the sale. I had practiced all course long and by the time of test day I had disassembled and reassembled this transmission over 20 times. I tested out in 45 minutes; tear down to reassemble.
