The more important item to want info on is the floor pans and the frame area in the wheel well where it overlaps and welded into the inner fender/engine wheel house. This is a common area for them to rust badly. The frame area can start to de-laminate from rust. All that being said, these are excellent vehicles. They ride nice, can go through anything and still get great mileage for a 4x4 with a big six and carb. We've gotten mids 20s for mpg on them. Both had very low miles on the and original tires, they were used by a couple that took care of an elderly wealthy couple that ended up being in the Will! After the old man passed, his instructions were to sell the estate and liquidate everything! Then got to keep HALF! The State got the rest in back taxes! Anyway we ended up with both, in matching white exterior with vinyl wood graining and very nice red interiors. But seems like the oil was never changed, because they both ran very poorly and the inside of both oil fill caps were covered with sludge and looking inside was a black ugly mess! When we drained the oil in both the last few ounces came oozing out also in a black mess. So instead of doing anything with either one of them, we decided on V8 transplants! So we went to the local bone yard and found two Chevy 350/4brl 4bolt main pickup engines and started by re-sealing them both and detailed them in Chevy Engine Red/Orange, had custom headers built because the front driveshaft set up is very tight in these when you go the V8 route. But everything bolted up fairly easy with the adapter kits we got. When we were finished they were among the two most bad assed Beach Wagons I ever seen or driven since! Parts are mostly plentiful, since AMC either used Jeep stuff like door handles - or raided the parts bin of every other manufacturer. Ignitions from Ford, steering columns from GM, transmissions from Chrysler. There are a few suspension parts getting hard to find but the guys on the amceaglesden.com know where all the hoards are stashed. \r\n\r\nI swapped a NP242 from a late 90s Jeep Cherokee, and the transformation was amazing. The low gear makes these things act like mountain goats, even with the automatic. Others have put in NP231s, but then you lose the full-time feature of the original Eagle 4wd setup. These things are all about traction, and excel in snow, ice, and mud.
