The paint shows very well...all panels are smooth and glossy. I've tried very hard to show all of the flaws in the photos, but standing a few feet from the car very few of them are visible. \r\n\r\nThe overspray is minimal and is mostly on the windshield and hatch gaskets (which is not visible when the hatch is closed). The biggest flaw in the paint is where the c-pillar wraps to the rear hatch opening - there is an uneven line from old paint to new. Again, this is not visible at all when the hatch is closed...I've tried to show that in the pictures as best I can. \r\n Honestly, it never bothered me as it is hidden 99% of the time.\r\n\r\n As for @Vwpat's questions about rust, I have shown all (small) rust spots in the photos as best I can. These are all surface spots, with the exception of one slight bubble that appeared years ago under the driver's side rear window gasket, and has not really gotten any worse. It is very small and really not visible unless you know it's there. Again, please check the photos for some close-ups. Also, I have three \"Controle Technique\" receipts (the rigorous inspection process in France). They show 114K in 1999, 138K in 2002, and 143K in in 2003. I acquired the car with about 148K in 2005. Today, the odometer shows 156K. To me, this all demonstrates a clear progression and an accurate reading. \r\n\r\nWhile we are speaking of odometer readings, I did want to make sure I point out that the Massachusetts title reads \"999,999\" in the odometer reading section. When the car was imported, it was originally titled in Florida, and the DMV would not accept an odometer reading in kilometers and indicated \"Exempt\" on the Florida title, which then carried over to the Massachusetts title. \r\n\r\n(Massachusetts and Florida titles are shown in picture 192, but are hard to read given the resolution/size. He had every scrap of paper from his time as owner and even prior to his ownership. The car looks very similar to the pictures he posted; in some cases better. It's a nice example of a Mark 1 GTI, and a European model to boot. I am a friend of the seller and have spent some time in this car including having the opportunity to drive it recently. The owner, Marc, had trailered the car to Watkins Glen for the annual Vintage Sportscar weekend and about 40 minutes outside of town, we dropped the car and I jumped in with Marc. If you have ever been to Watkins, the drive in is what these cars are built for. Amazing open farm roads with great elevation changes and plenty of twisties to keep things interesting. \r\n\r\nI owned a MK1 US spec GTI for 5 years in my 20s that I daily drove after fully restoring it. I have driven other MK1s as well, so safe to say I know a bit about these cars. When Marc offered to let me take the wheel just outside of town, I obviously wasn\u2019t going to say no. In my opinion, this car is perfect. It drives exactly as it should, runs like a top, clutch engagement is great, shifts flawlessly, and behaves just the way a well dialed in MK1 should. The extra hp over my US version really makes this car feel quick. The addition of the new Konis made a big difference - the ride was comfortable and the Konis sucked up road imperfections perfectly. \r\n\r\nThis GTI gets a lot of attention from those in the know and that was fun too. Marc offered the car to me just before putting it up on BaT and sadly I had to decline due to lack of garage space.
