There are countless posts online about people thinking about doing one, working on one, or almost done with one. Still, I've never once seen a completed conversion on an 80s RWD Caddy, which is interesting because there are LS swaps all over the place, as you can see in the BaT listings. There was even one in an RX7 a while back.\r\n\r\nAnother reason I'm surprised there aren't more LS conversions is the desirability of the '80-92 de Ville and Brougham line. I track mainly the 307 models, and in the latest Hagerty valuation guide, a #1 condition one of those jumped from $8,900 to $19,000 in the last year. I couldn't find an '81 CDV in their guide except with the Olds diesel, but an '80 with the 368 in #1 condition is $20,000. \r\n\r\nMost of the '82-85s with the self-destructive HT4100 V8 have long been scrapped, and that's a shame. They were available cheap, and there could have been a cottage industry to put LSs into those the way they put small-block Chevys into Jag Xj6s in the 70s and 80s.\r\n\r\nHere you have a super desirable car in beautiful condition, in a knock-out color with a very neatly done LS upgrade. The engine compartment has plenty of room for that, and the Silverado 6.0 looks like it was born there. Any repairs to keep the car safe after doubling (or more) the HP are extra. \r\n\r\nThis was not a budget job. A lot of the bills for this build are shown in the gallery. I haven't got all of them. This car has Holly accessory system, exhaust manifolds & coil covers, dual speedo drive ($600.00+), a complete LS3/L99 intake system (all new) and much much more. Literally everything mechanical was new or professionally rebuilt at 51,000 miles with the exception of the engine (add 3,000 miles), trans (add 3,000 miles) and the rear axle (add 17,000 miles). For example all the control arms are new, not just new bushings and ball joints.\r\n\r\nA major thing to keep in mind is that the engine is just a small down payment on the job. I did it twice myself, and the bumper bounced right back. The third time my mechanic did it, and when he called to tell me, said, \u201cit\u2019s pretty bad.\u201d It did look bad \u2014 the bumper had lodged in on one side, both fillers cracked and fell off, and the floating taillights gave it that cyclops look. He said, take it anywhere you want, and we\u2019ll pay to fix it. \n\nAll it needed besides new fillers, which I was going to do anyway, was one new rear strut. Not a scratch on the bumper or the chrome taillamp housings and not one speck of paint on the sheetmetal was damaged. It\u2019s an excellent bumper system. Looking at the frame and under the car in back, it looks exactly like mine, i.e., not touched. If you look at pic 173, you can see the strut mount color is slightly different from what\u2019s on the frame, indicating that\u2019s probably what happened \u2014 they had the bumper off and replaced one or both struts. One of mine was damaged, and the body shop said they could weld it in place, but it would damage the frame if it ever happened again. \n\nSo this was a correct repair. The car has been driven less than 7000 miles since built.\r\n\r\nTemporary tags are available here, but I would suggest that you get them where you are, small town, restricted hours etc. Check on line with New Hampshire DMV to be safe.\r\n\r\nI would not hesitate driving it cross country tomorrow. Mechanically this is a 7,000 mile car with a 10,000 mile engine and transmission and a 24,000 mile rear axle. All of these components were inspected before installation and were in new condition.\r\n\r\nPower windows, door locks, seat, trunk release, heat, a/c, radio, cruise control etc. all function as they should.\r\n\r\nThere are invoices for the engine and transmission with the VIN#s in the gallery. You can Carfax them and I think they will show mileage when the trucks were sold for salvage.\r\n\r\nI have built 3 LS toys, this car, a 1980 Malibu M80 with an a LS2 from a 2006 GTO and a 2003 Sonoma pickup with an LS1 from a 2004 Corvette.
