Early w114 models had the old style padding so not an issue with those, just 1972/73. Earlier and later models strangely enough do not have this issue. Not sure why it's these models which are particularly affected. Euro versions of these models don't seems to have the problem and other models like w108 and w126 seem to be immune to the issue.
