Widest in the USA was 5.5\u201d found on Mk1 Jetta\u2019s and Dashers. Early all plastic dashboard will never crack. Many 76 GTI only details/parts all still intact and in great condition. In my opinion the motor being rebuilt by Techtonics Tuning only increases the value. They have been a staple in the VW scene for decades and highly regarded by all enthusiasts. If someone is in the market for a Euro spec GTI, this may be the one to get. The techtonics build and 1.8 crank probably give this Golf a lot more torque under 3500rpm and only makes this car even more fun. The bottom end is a bored 1781cc motor. It will be noticeably torquier, especially at street speeds. It does change the temperament of the car.\n\n@seller, thanks for posting trans pictures with numbers. Some VW wizard will have to decipher...looks like \"GE\" to me. I think the initial GTI (and this is one) was basically a \"drop a bigger motor\" job, with sportier tires and suspension.\n\nThe gear box, I SUSPECT, was a typical 4-speed: 3.45/1.94/1.29/0.97 with a 3.89 rear end. Probably the same as the typical 1588cc box, because the power here is at higher revs, not more torque.\n\nThe 5-speed that came later was the close-ratio purpose built gearbox and for all I know, it may have been 1.8 only. So many of those cars ended up with euro bumpers, euro lights, euro engine parts etc. THIS IS the real euro car, the original. I'm surprised more of them haven't already made their way to the US. So many small differences, bumpers, lights, wiring, engine, thankfully no gawdy red/blue interior. The 4 speed trans would have been more of a bummer but the seller has overcome that in my opinion that with the engine, built by Techtonics no less. Not that a car like this needs or even would be driven that hard. After years of reading all the magazines, I know exactly what this car is and a little surprised more people don't know and I'm interested to see if the final sale price reflects that. Or a reflection on the true impact of the US Rabbit GTI which I would understand.
