US DOT requirements. It appears that the car was delivered in Europe and perhaps the DOT was done here. More information could be had by obtaining the build records from Morgan Motor Company. \r\n\r\nThe gear lever is in the right place, probably on the transmission mounted gear linkage extension. \r\n\r\nThe windshield wipers are pretty much normal, though there are proper spring blade types now available. Note the windshield squirter on the scuttle. The washer bottle is bolted to the firewall, passenger side. \r\n\r\nDoor pockets were an option on Morgans. Not all cars had them. Not sure about the magnetic glove box door. It probably didn't have one to start with. Since the panel is vinyl covered, it would certainly be possible to make a cover without having to worry about a wood grain match. I bet that the cover was done later, along with a re-covering of the instrument panel. \r\n\r\nThe 4/4 is very light, with aluminum body panels and wings on most. It also has an advantage for a hot rodder, as there are plenty of variations of the 1600 Kent engine, and the option of installing an SVT Ztec if so inclined. There are also CR 4 speed and 5 speed gearbox conversions using the Ford T9. Or, one could just dip into the catalog of hot rod parts for the 1600, including stroker kits and a pair of Webers. \r\n\r\nFrom the pictures, it doesn't appear to have any significant chassis corrosion. A quick opening and closing of the doors would tell a lot about the condition of the wood. \r\n\r\nThe exhaust is an easy fix, as the original exhaust brackets and mufflers are available at a reasonable price. \r\n\r\nThe electrical system doesn't seem to have been messed with, at least in the engine compartment. In any case, rewiring is not a huge problem (ready to install wiring kits are available), as the system is very simple. \r\n\r\nThere is a windshield washer bottle and pump. Of course, it may not work, but again, the car is pretty simple. \r\n\r\nA better look under the car would be appreciated, along with a proper picture of the cluster gauge. \r\n\r\nThis one would be a worthwhile restoration, and perhaps not too difficult, depending on the condition of the wood. Certainly a good way to get into Morgan ownership. These cars are modern enough when it comes to running gear. The shift is mounted directly on the tail piece. I swapped mine out for a T-9 5 speed for better highway use.\n\nI love this version of the Morgan. Good power to weight, and the crossflow engine is so easy to work on and maintain. A pair of properly tuned Weber DCOE carbs would give 140 hp. Earlier versions of the 4/4 weigh 1300-ish lbs (alloy body version) to 1450 lbs or so. I imagine this one is a bit heavier due to some of the safety equipment but I bet it's still well under 1600 lbs so the potential power to weight ratio could create a lot of driving entertainment.\r\n\r\n@FogRob do you know the final drive ratio? Series V 4/4's (production ended in 1967) often had the 4.56:1 ratio, which resulted in something like 4200-4600 rpm at 70 mph (which is why a number of owners have opted for a later 5-speed gearbox with overdrive). 4.1:1 is a common variant used in Morgans. The 1600 xflow cars like this were lovely to drive, with the down draft Weber and header it probably puts out 90 hp or more, it also likely has the fully synchronized close ratio later Cortina gearbox without the big gap between 2nd and 3rd. It needs paint and the clown car two tone and interior really are unattractive, sorry. This would be a time to back date the rear torpedo lamps to Tr. style and install earlier chrome bumpers and over riders, even a wood dash and get rid of those hideous add on head rests. @FogRob, you really ought to see if you can do a driving video and shoot some better photos of the chassis rails. Morgans are simple vehicles and make wonderful projects, the hardware store is your friend.
