The Flaminia Supersport Zagato was the last true masterpiece and rightly so. Do not however expect top quality finish and fittings in a Zagato like you would expect from a factory build car or a Pininfarina bodied example. Zagato was not about luxury but for competition and being light and aerodynamic. In this price range they had to offer some luxury but it falls behind the quality of the luxury design houses. Something which was acceptable in a smaller car like a Fulvia Sport or Alfa junior Zagato but not in this segment. Combined with an engine with merely 150hp, which was not enough to scare the competition, not many were sold. But driving one now makes one forget all this. To drive one as a classic car meaning gentle cross country driving using torque more than horses it all comes together and makes for a fabulous machine! Lancia has been behind the top marques for too long now. I hope the auction of this car will marque a turning point in getting lancia were it belongs, at the top! It is stunning with this color and the standard touring seats and the bi-metal Borranis. This car has led a fairly pampered life. It was never neglected for many years in a leaky barn so the chances of finding lots of hidden corrosion are slim. The Flaminia is a delicate car and the cost of upkeep will be higher than your 'run of the mill' Porsche 911 but so are most Italian exotics from the 50's and '60s. The secret is to drive them. Give them regular exercise and complex and sensitive systems like the brake system will keep functioning for many years. Cars like this will be kept in a heated garage and will never see salt so if any corrosion exists it will not grow to the extend that it would ever need a body-off resto. \r\nA Flaminia Zagato is a 400K car but would be worth millions if the badge would read Maserati or Ferrari. I wonder for how long this will be the case...\r\nBid with confidence but if you have the money, bid! And if you were planning on that exotic 60's Ferrari or Maserati, buy this and spend what you save on a house, a mechanic and a few other great cars.
