I think that they were later builds and I\u2019m of the opinion that it was a cost cutting measure as the fiberglass steel reinforced frame hoods were more costly . I have owner several 67 GT500's, a 69 GT500 4 speed, and a 70 GT350 4 speed, and my long term love, 1966 6S2166, for over 20 years, it just left the stable.\r\n\r\nWith 2166 ( 2166 was primarily a track car) came hundreds of spare parts, engines, transmissions, Intakes, Carbs, genuine wooden over the counter steering wheels, interior parts, AM/FM 1966 radio, etc. I too have been collecting for decades, and have recently off loaded almost every spare part, except this one, which is my fav, next to the steering wheels, which have all been sold . Even my collection of weber manifolds, 48IDA carbs, everything, except this. \r\n\r\nRecently I promised my wife to get this stuff gone, to sell our 2 S351 Supercharged Saleens, my beloved E39M5, a rarely used E46 M3 6 speed, to make life easier. These were leftover Ford hoods modified by Pigeon Manufacturing. It's a great color combo.\n\n\nInteresting to note that the stripe had a very specific taper, wider at the back and narrower at the front. The stripes on Mustangs which just don't look quite right are not correctly configured, and you can see it but just can't quite figure out what it is.
