Any way I bought it from the owner of Bridge Hampton raceway and Bob got it from Tony Wang in part trade on some other cars. I knew it was my car when i saw the pics as it was the only Lynx i had seen with brass switch pulls on the left side of the drivers dash. When I got the car it had ugly 70 series tires that didn't look right on the car so I put Dunlop racing tires on it (600 series) as you would have seen in the 50s, really changed the appearance because it sat up a little higher on the 15 inch rims, should have been 16s. Looks like the seats have had some wear but with 9 owner or so thats about right. Never liked the (not real) oil tank that was just a stand in for a real one with real cross over oil tubes. When I got the car the section in front of the windshield was not painted, just bare aluminum and when i sold it I pointed that out to the next owner which I think was from Utah and he took care of that paint flaw. I would drive it up to the Walter Mitty, Road Atlanta 50 miles from my house and enter it in touring and had great fun in it. Boy did it attract attention. Any way, great fun car lots of power in a very light set up. Wonderful brilliant mechanic Terry Girone, Tucker Georgia would work on it for me and did some work for the new owner before it took off to Utah (if it did). In addition, depending on personal preference, the XKSS had a 3.4 liter motor and you have more options if you build a replica, including going all the way up to 4.6 liters with an aluminum block so you have more usable power. This one even retains the E Type torsion bars. That's a plus in my book, even with the slightly more difficult chassis setup. \r\n\r\nLynx cars have pretty nice fit and finish, and the all alloy body lends it additional value. \r\n\r\nFor one who wants a vintage car that they can driven, this replica offers the feel and performance of the original, but without the 8 figure value. Many of us who have collected cars have found that with increasing value, the fun diminishes. Too much to worry about, not so much as to a driver/owner making a mistake, but rather the specter of a driver plowing into your car in traffic. When these cars were built it was a bespoke service, not a production line. Each client was for example asked which engine he wanted - 3.8 or 4.2; torque or power. Mine has a 4.2 rebuilt for me by Chris in 2004 and has over 300 bhp and 400 lb/ft of torque with graphs to prove it. Some engines are dry sump (the ex Nicolas Cage for example), most aren't. As regards top speed that will depend on the axle ratio and wheel size. I run on 16\" with Blockley bias ply tyres and a 3.31 rear axle. Change to a 3.07 or even a 2.88 and one would not be far from touching 180 mph I think. I have seen over 150 on the 3.31, but that was on an aerodrome and with the aerodynamics of the day I don't think I'd like to try for much more. Anyway, it's a moot point in today's world. Most of these cars are not really used (9,000 miles here in not far off 40 years) but I have put over 20,000 on mine since purchase. The fuel tank will hold around 17 gallons and in my instance is an alloy fuel cell, the consumption about 16 mpg - on a good day! My dry sump tank was welded up and is a breather tank, not the tool roll holder it was designed to be.\n\nMost of this is not relevant to the car for sale, but just to give additional information as to how beautifully these cars are made and what a joy it is to own one. Jaguar had a load of short nose shells left in stock, the D-type now being virtually unsaleable, and decided that since the D-type was not eligible for SCCA events to create a roadster that would be eligible, and set out to make 25 for homologation. In so doing they adopted a trick used by Ferrari and the chassis numbers ran XKSS 701, 704, 707, 710 - look we've already built 10 cars! The factory caught fire in February 1957 after 16 XKSS had been made, and that was the end of the run, except that Jaguar decided to make 9 more in 2017 to complete the original intention of 25 cars. It is not true that remaining D-types were burned, only a few shells. Most of the shells were in stock elsewhere but, ever mindful of the insurance, claimed they had been destroyed in the fire.
