The lines are pretty straight so may have been masked but not sure.", "likes": 0, "timestamp": 1748456609, "type": "comment", "endDate": "2025-05-28 18:23:29+00"}, {"id": 17784711, "authorName": "originalbob", "authorUrl": "https://bringatrailer.com/member/originalbob/", "bidAmount": 0, "content": "@Bobofohio and @Hosscienda - regarding the pinstripes it is fairly easy to determine if they were free-hand applied or done with readily tape available masking sets for more sloppily applying pinstripe paint to obtain a similar look.\r\n\r\nLook closely, using a magnifier if required - a true free hand pinstripe will have zero tiny tape removal lines - almost like tiny feathers along the edge. \r\n\r\nAnother tell is that free hand work also tends to be ever so slightly uneven in width along the entire run even from the very best including those who worked for BMW and did this exquisite work for a career.\r\n\r\nThe extra images you shared don't let me really see enough or feel them which is part of a complete evaluation for what is needed to be 100% accurate in a definitive answer.\r\n\r\nI can see enough to tell me it is likely hand applied but not perfect based on thickness alone - even when new you could almost always see where a BMW pinstripe expert started and ended - the paint was not very thick, and the overlap was visibly present in almost every job. \r\n\r\nI will add that this is a very nice-looking example of a restored R27 and I'm sure it should bring good money.
