IMHO, a clapped out IS model is less complicated than the DS and if you want a good driver and not a show car, a project IS makes a certain amount of sense. She's complete and while they are unusual, they are in many respects a not too complicated car to bring back. Still , by the time you are done, you will be a craftsman skilled in rust removal and panel creation and welding. Bring a Tetanus certificate. \n\nRegarding \"seller states that the suspension requires service and that the brakes do not work\", doesn't every non running Citroen have this same malady? These aren't as bad as you think to work on. The hydraulic system is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. The front wings come off with a couple bolts so you can work on the interior engine bay. Lots of support in the community for when you get stuck. Lots of parts available too. This is the base model, so it has the simplest version of the hydraulic system to work on. The winner will want to make sure they use the right fluid in the hydraulic system. The later cars have LHM hydraulics, which is mineral oil. Early cars have LHS, which is similar to glycol brake fluid. The LHS fluid is hygroscopic and corrosive, so many of the components in a car that has been sitting for a long time will be rusted internally. There is a reason that a big upgrade is when an LHS car is converted to LHM, but there is an immense amount of work to do the conversion. Basically every seal in the system must be replaced with mineral fluid compatible seals. I've heard a bit about the history of Citro\u00ebn DS production in Mexico, (including a bunch of photos I wish I had saved.) \n\nIn the 1960s, the O'Farrill family, through their company Automotriz O'Farrill, assembled Citro\u00ebn DS BVM and ID models from knock-down kits imported from France.
