I bought it from a farmer that was going to sell it to a junkyard because the engine seized at 40K miles. It must have been some gas or oil additive he was using. Anyway the point I want to make about the 225ci 6 is how easy it is to work on. I removed the head and oil pan with the engine still in the truck and was able to pound the pistons out with a 2x2 and 2.5lb hammer. Whatever that farmer was using, I found all the cylinder walls covered with a layer of some kind of hard pink substance that looks like bubble gum. I cleaned that out, did a cross-hatch pattern with a drill and sanding pads, put new rings and bearings in, put the head and oil pan on and that thing ran like it was brand new. Once caught, she\u2019d saunter up to the trap with a .22 and put one right between the eyes.\r\n\r\nThis unnerved Miss Lyla Ann, who chastised Miss Dotty and said, \u201cThese are God\u2019s creatures. You should be ashamed,\u201d as she got in her \u201951 Dodge Wayfarer and headed to Flatland Dodge-DeSoto-Plymouth to trade for a new \u201960 Dart.\r\n\r\nThe green Seneca 2-door was perfect. Just the right amount of sparkle and splash without going overboard. Not as plain as a Plymouth; not as crazy as a Chrysler. \u201cIf this was a novel, \u201c she thought, \u201cit would be full of metaphors and have a happy ending.\u201d Not that she had ever actually experienced a happy ending.\r\n\r\nThe salesman was a former student. She made him write up the contract twice because he misspelled \u2018Seneca\u2019 the first time. \u201cIt only has one \u2019n\u2019. I taught you better than that.\u201d\r\n\r\nPaperwork signed, she slid on to that plaid green seat the way a business letter slides into an envelope. The \u2018X\u2019 of the big emerald steering wheel was like the one she would slap on every run-on sentence she\u2019d read on every paper she ever graded.\r\n\r\nIt was about six months after that when squirrels found their way into Miss Lyla Ann\u2019s attic. Hungry and cold, they nested up there and eventually chewed on some of the wiring. A fire broke out that quickly spread. She barely got the Dodge backed out of the garage before the roof caved in where it had been parked. Two fire alarms to the FSFD and $20,000 worth of damage later, Miss Lyla Ann had changed her tune on squirrels.\r\n\r\nYou\u2019d see the Seneca all of a sudden accelerate and hop a curb going down Pine Street just to hit one. It got to where squirrels and possums would run away at the sight of any Dodge. Raccoons, with their inferior eyesight, stayed away from all Chrysler products.\r\n\r\nIn \u201962 she ran a stop sine to hit a badger. Missed it with the front tire, but got it with the back one. It was deceased before it ever hit the top of the muffler, but that\u2019s where it stayed for months. Every time she drove through the neighborhood it smelled like burning hair and a char-broiled burger from the Dairy Twin down on Highway 6.\r\n\r\nIn \u201967 she parked the car in the garage for the last time. Hew nephew, Clint, ended up with the Seneca. Drove it off to college in Odessa, and then the first few years he taught English back in Fort Stockton at Our Lady of Immeasurable Concern. He went out to start it one morning and nothing happened. Zero. Zilch. Nadda. Squirrels had chewed through the ignition wiring.\r\n\r\nGood luck with the auction. This is a Dart you don\u2019t want to dodge. I'm a biased fan, having owned a 1960 Matador for many years. Referencing my chip chart, I believe this Seneca's original color was Teal, as seen in the photo of the door frame/B-pillar. The re-paint doesn't look like an original color. Some historical notes: Dodge made 44,719 two-door sedans in 1960. How many were Dart Senecas is unknown. The Dart line was based on the Plymouths and used some of their sheet metal, including the rear doors. The shape of the rear fin was supposed to resemble the tail end of a throwing dart. Interestingly, I think the fin of the Matador/Polara looks even more like a dart. The Dart models got the same dashboard and beautiful steering wheels as the pricier Matador/Polara. Chrysler's new unit-body construction was not the first unit-body design by a long shot (even the Airflow employed a type of unit-body), but it was maybe the first modern, complete execution of the design philosophy and became a model of what we know today as unit-body or unitized construction. Chryslers trade-name for it in 1960 was \"Unibody\" and that name obviously stuck. Since ALL Chryslers (except Imperial), Dodges, Plymouths and DeSotos went Unibody in 1960, this was a pretty monumental and quick change in design and manufacturing techniques. There is a great video discussing how they made the shift, using early computer simulation to find the best path to making the cars stronger, quieter, tighter, etc. They also pioneered new rust-proofing, welding, and other assembly-line processes. All in one year. https://youtu.be/Ric5XfDuyAc. Unibody also gave Chryslers better cornering ability than the American competition, according to testers of the '60 models. Cool stuff. Someone suggested throwing in a Hemi. I strongly disagree. First, the Hemi wasn't on a production car between '59-63, so that would be completely 1960-incorrect. The 361 and 383 were at least offered in 1960. That being said, these cars are getting rare. Keep it original. With such an overwhelming number of old car nuts being hot-rodders, there's soon going to be very few originally-motivated examples of any cars from the '60's left. Besides, the slant-6 is a legendary great engine! If needed, the adjustable rear brakes from some mid-60's Chryslers can be swapped in. That was the only upgrade I made on my Matador. The originals are an unobtainium non-adjustable variety. I got memories, and this story has the advantage of having actually happened. \r\n\r\nDuring my freshman year at college, I lived for almost three weeks in a green '60 Dodge (not even mine), after my roommates and I were unceremoniously evicted from our off-campus apartment, following our night in the local pokey sobering up. My roomies had the opportunity to crash at the fraternity they were pledging, but I had no place to go, so one of them lent me the car. It was near the end of the term, and it didn't seem worthwhile to seek other arrangements, so the Dodge it was. \r\n\r\nIt wasn't precisely this model on offer, it was a Matador 4-door, which was the larger, Polara size. Think 1-bedroom versus studio. It was green, not bright green like this car but more of a mint green, with a 361 (I think) and the push-button Torqueflite.
