According to the family the father bought the car right after it was restored and drove it sparingly. Not being an expert or even very familiar with these cars I'll try and answer any questions the best I can. @brakeservo the horn button isn't loose not sure if it's upside down or not and the horn does work. @Hiker399 I assume that the engine was rebuilt and it runs and looks like it was but unfortunately I don't have any paperwork stating that. @trchip there are horns and they do work. @Aridgerunner the switch to the left of the steering wheel is for the turn signals and they do work. @carmeister haven't seen enough frames on these cars to know for sure if it was a repair of some sort or just the way they were made. Let\u2019s start with the facts as we know them. Between 1953 and 1955 Standard-Triumph built only 8,863 TR2s. Of those, only 4001 were these more desirable \u201clong doors\u201d. Bill Lynn\u2019s survivors list on the Vintage Triumph Register website lists just 734 long door survivors. Of those, it\u2019s hard to say how many are still actually licensed for the road\u2014 maybe a few hundred? For more information, go here: https://vintagetriumphregister.org/tr2/ The TR2 was the car that kicked off the whole Triumph TR series from it to the TR8. There was only one TR1. It was judged to be a death trap by the test driver and so they went back to the drawing board and built the somewhat less death-trappy TR2. :-)\r\n\r\nThat same list of Bill Lynn's shows this car as being in the Netherlands, with a replacement engine, body number 726283 and that the original colour was pearl white, so perhaps the car was imported from Europe and restored in Calfornia? It\u2019s a shame that we don\u2019t know a bit more about the provinence of the car, as that could tell us more about how it got from there to here, assuming, of course, that Bill Lynn\u2019s list information is correct. Anyway, based on the commission number, we can say it was built as a left hand drive, without electric overdrive. I\u2019ll defer to others on the frame issues etc. With no engine number and no British Heritage Certificate we can\u2019t say a lot beyond that. \r\n\r\nIt\u2019s true to say that this isn\u2019t a concours car, but then these days many buyers are more interested in having a fun little driver than whether it will win a ribbon at a car show. Most will install a few good mechanical upgrades that will enhance drivability and dependability. For example, it looks like the original Lockheed rear end was replaced with the stronger Girling, which was a common upgrade back in the day, especially for anyone who raced them. I'd be unsurprised if this engine doesn't have the larger (87 or 89mm) pistons and sleeves. Re: Wiper spacing, it\u2019s supposed to be about 10\u201d for this car, which looks about right. It wasn\u2019t increased to 14\u201d until TS995. Regardless, many of the concours deficits in that regard are fairly easily remedied if that\u2019s your jam. \r\n\r\nLastly, what is often lost in these conversations is the spirit of these cars. Power to weight, it\u2019s like driving a motorcycle with no need for a helmet. The TR2 was raced at Le Mans in 1955 in the under 2L category, which is why many were raced when imported to the US. They were the poor man\u2019s Jaguar XK120 with similar visual design cues. They get looks wherever they go. Everybody loves them. If the buyer plans on taking it out for errands on weekends, they should budget the extra time to talk to people who love this car. Ask me how I know. Most of my friends drove them hard. It would be a great Cars and Coffee car. I don't know how hard it would be to change to Disc brakes. Then you'd be looking at the shocks and other suspension. Then you'd definitely be in the cross hairs of the purists. The head and carbs was a smart change. You would only want the original if it was going to sit next to your Lambo that you don't drive either. Most of these heavy cast iron engines were designed like tractor engines. Not really meant for high RPM or long drives. The low end torque was an amazing feeling. Not like my S2000 that kicks in at 6500 RPM and lives between there and 9000. If I drove my Honda in the sweet spot all the time I would be a CHP magnet. With the low RPM cars. You feel it every time you leave a stop sign. Just a different type of car experience. Both are good.
