It was a wonderful little bike, and it's worth emphasizing that they aren't huge bikes, the seat was pretty low and position was upright, I loved it. With only 14 HP you can't get yourself in trouble and the hand shifter on the right is actually pretty fun once you get used to it. Perfect for a cruise around the neighborhood or a trip to get coffee. Some early ones wore fired glass BMW emblems, but flat and crude, unlike the subtle, elegant, difficult to produce dome of the Munich, and early Berlin, made BMWs' . That sort of detail, through out, and @shooker 's noted phenomenon of owners/sellers insisting that they are something other then what they are, have kept these from standing on their own. We have had two, both earlier hard tails, both honest, unrestored bikes with foot shift and small, sequential, neutral finder. The gated four speed is a nice detail, but probably added during its' restoration. As explained to me by Indian Mechanic, Dewey Bunkrude, who won the Pasadena M/C Greenhorn Two Day Enduro, wrenched for 3 AMA #1 plate holders and was the Trailblazers inaugural hall of fame inductee, a suicide clutch was a foot clutch that engaged as you took your foot off it, like a car. Any stock Indian had a rocker, as their massive torque (cynics read heavy flywheel) would not stall, like a modern bike, if you were to suddenly engage the clutch from a stop.
