The factory hand built bikes to order so most parts, regardless of model, were interchangeable. I owned a 1952 Black Shadow for years, and had the opportunity to ride (and buy) several Comets. If you are not worried about absolute top speed, the Comet is a very easy bike to live with and ride. Brakes are top drawer for the day as is the handling, as long as all the bushings (replaceable) in the Girdraulic fork are in good condition. The carburetor on the bike now is now the correct one. The Amal Monobloc in the pictures was a replacement that has since been replaced. Some other details are not stock, but overall, this is a lovely old bike that appears to run well. It has enough horsepower to do anything you may require except go a hundred miles and hour for days on end. It's easy to start and comfortable to ride. And of, so beautiful. The Comet single was comparatively short strok for a British single, so revved higher and was smoother than comparable bikes like a Norton ES2 which I had before the Vincent, or a Velocette, which I also owned. A 70 year old British 500 single that easily does 85 on the Highway. It is easy to ride and handles well. The engineering is leaps and bounds ahead of its time. For people unfamiliar with Vincent\u2019s the Comet is basically a Rapide or Black Shadow with a single cylinder. Very few parts are different.
